Track Wiring Kits

Track Wiring Kits are designed to simplify your track wiring project - no need to research and track down various components from multiple sources and hope they all work with one another.  Wiring kits are offered below for 2, 3 or 4 lanes and are compatible with all brands of plastic slot car track  Wiring kits work equally well with routed (wood) tracks as well.  While anyone can sell you some terminal blocks and spade terminals, our wiring kits include the really good ones (see Terminal Blocks)!  What's more, our wiring kits include special labels and templates which are designed to make your wiring project much easier.  The templates are designed specifically for the heavy duty terminal blocks included in the kit - simply mount the template between the terminal block and the underside of your table using the mounting hardware provided.  Everything is clearly labeled - this makes it a snap to layout and connect your track wiring.  The templates also make it very easy for me to provide remote (telephone) support should you have any questions.  Once your wiring project is completed, the templates serve as documentation for future reference should you need to reconfigure your wiring or troubleshoot a problem.  Whether this is your first track wiring project or you're a seasoned veteran, you'll really appreciate these templates!

An illustrated Track Wiring Guide is also available free of charge - it provides easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions which cover ALL aspects of your track wiring project (including installation of the track wiring kit).  This guide is by FAR the most complete how-to track wiring reference available today.

Still uncertain or skeptical about just how much easier these wiring kits will make your track wiring project?  Be sure to read what some of my Customers have to say in the Testimonial section.

*** PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ***

Track Wiring Kits do NOT include the following:

·        Power Supply – These are readily available from several sources.  Look for a regulated variable DC (VDC) power supply which can be adjusted to provide up to 15 volts of power and is rated at 10+ amps continuous output.  The Pyramid PS26KX (available on www.eBay.com or www.etronics.com for about $80.00 plus shipping) is a good choice for 1/32 slot car racing.

·        Power Taps – For plastic tracks, power taps are track sections used to evenly distribute power throughout your layout.  Power taps are generally straight track sections with wires (“taps”) attached to each track rail.  Wires are typically “attached” using solder; however, in some cases it may be possible to “stuff” exposed wire into channels formed by the track rails on the underside of the track.  Power taps for Scalextric Sport track are available in the “Products” section (see Power Tap).

·        Controller Hookup Panels – Controller hookup panels provide a convenient way to quickly connect/disconnect your controller.  You can make your own or purchase ready-made controller hookup panels from Slot Car Corner.  For those of you who might want to try their hand at fabricating their own hookup panels, controller hookup panel hardware kits and other optional components are also available.  The "Articles" section of the Slot Car Corner website also includes detailed step-by-step illustrated instructions for both basic and enhanced controller hookup panels.

·        Wire – Use stranded copper hookup wire to distribute power throughout your layout.  Remember, wire with a lower (numerically) gauge number has a higher current carrying capacity (called "ampacity") than an higher gauge wire.  For most layouts, 14 gauge wire is a good choice.  If you have a larger layout (e.g. individual lane lengths greater than 100 feet) consider using 12 gauge wire instead.  Hookup wire is readily available at most electronic stores (e.g. Radio Shack) and automotive parts stores; however, you'll often get a better deal at large home improvement centers such as Home Depot or Lowe's.  You might also want to check your local “yellow pages” or business directory to see if there are cable and wire suppliers in your area who carry flexible stranded hookup wire.

Tip:  If you find a local wiring and cabling distributor who requires a minimum order which exceeds your immediate requirements, you may want to purchase the additional wire in anticipation of expanding your layout in the future.  Another alternative is to find someone else in your area who is planning to wire their track.  If you belong to a slot car club, you may be able to coordinate wire purchases with other members to meet the minimum purchase requirements.
